VISIONARIES AND TASTEMAKERS: INTERNATIONAL MUSIC CONFERENCE
transmission MAKES A MOVE TO A NEW TIME IN A NEW CITY
Victoria, B.C (March 9, 2009) Tyl van Toorn, co-founder and producer of the popular transmission Music and Digital Media Conference and Showcase announced that transmission 2009 will take place in Victoria, B.C. September 22 - 26.
With over a dozen keynote presentations, 60 roundtables, and 25 showcases taking place over three days, transmission.TALKS has matured into one of the more evocative industry get togethers addressing the future of the Global Music Economy.
"It's hard to believe that it's already been four years since we started fine-tuning this event," says van Toorn. Every year the transmission team has continued to craft relevant conversations and opportunities making it one of the most sought-after independent music industry events in North America. With Victoria's world-renowned reputation for it's natural beauty, and close proximity to amenities, loyal transmission regulars have already responded positively to the venue, and date change.
"transmission is about discovery and relationship building, as a result we are always on the lookout for settings like Victoria. It is a perfect atmosphere for creating an intimate walking-distance experience for fans and delegates," says van Toorn. "It's this type of setting that allows professionals to focus on the business at hand and not get distracted with the logistics of a big city environment," says Catharine Saxberg, Executive Director for the Canadian Music Publishers Association. Combine the change of venue and a new alliance with Victoria's hottest new music festival - Rifflandia, and you have the makings for one of North America's coolest music industry events.
This year's transmission.LIVE will be dovetailed by Rifflandia www.rifflandia.com, Atomique Production's innovative music festival that debuted last year. The combined impact of both events will result in over one hundred artists performing over four days in BC's capital. Over the four days the combination of transmission and Rifflandia will define Victoria as the continent's epicenter for live bands and relevant discussions on the future of music.
transmission.TALKS has confirmed Victoria's historic Crystal Gardens as the conference venue. This year's featured performance venue for transmission.LIVE will be Market Square, located in the heart of the downtown core. Market Square is one of Victoria's oldest city landmarks in the city's popular Old town district. The combination of these two great sites will be a powerful backdrop to the creative energy that gets created amongst artists and professionals at transmission.
Andreanne Sasseville, Director of Canadian Talent and Industry Relations of SIRIUS Satellite Radio, a sponsor for previous transmission programs, commented "transmission delivers a multi-platform experience for independent music leaders and Canadian artists alike. Victoria is particularly suited as a location because of its vibrant music scene. An international conference like this is a benefit to any community."
